Fire Glass Required:
How This Calculator Works
This calculator uses industry-standard formulas based on the volume of your fire pit and the density of fire glass. The calculation follows these steps:
1. Calculate the area of your fire pit in square inches
2. Multiply by the desired glass depth to get volume in cubic inches
3. Apply the appropriate density factor to convert volume to weight in pounds
4. Calculate the number of standard 10-pound bags or containers needed
For standard fire pits (round, square, rectangular), we use a density factor of 0.052 pounds per cubic inch. For fire bowls, which typically have curved bottoms, we use a simplified formula that accounts for their unique shape: Area × Depth ÷ 28.
